Who Should Consider a Liver Transplant?
A liver transplant may be recommended when end-stage liver disease (ESLD) or acute liver failure has progressed to the point where the liver can no longer perform its essential functions. When medical management is no longer effective and quality of life is severely impacted, transplantation offers the most definitive treatment.
You may be eligible for Liver Transplant if you have chronic liver failure caused by cirrhosis:
- viral hepatitis (B or C)
- Alcohol-related liver disease.
- non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
- inherited metabolic conditions.
🫂 About Living-Related Donation
A healthy family member (parent, sibling, spouse, or adult child) can donate a portion of their liver. Because the liver regenerates, both the donor’s and recipient’s livers typically grow back to full functional size within 6–8 weeks. Our program includes thorough donor screening, ethical and legal documentation, and a dedicated donor safety protocol to protect both lives.
Clinical Outcomes
Why a Liver Transplant Can Change Your Life
For patients with end-stage liver disease, a successful transplant is far more than a surgical procedure — it is a genuine second chance at a full, active life. Without transplantation, ESLD is progressive and ultimately fatal. With it, most patients experience transformative improvements across every dimension of health.
Restoration of Vital Functions
The new liver filters toxins from the blood, aids fat digestion, produces clotting proteins, and regulates metabolism — functions that had been failing before the transplant.
Increased Energy & Strength
Patients consistently report dramatic improvements in fatigue, jaundice, and overall physical endurance — often within weeks of recovery from surgery.
Freedom from Dangerous Complications
Transplantation significantly reduces the risk of fluid build-up (ascites), confusion caused by toxins (hepatic encephalopathy), and life-threatening internal bleeding (variceal hemorrhage).
Improved Life Expectancy
A successfully transplanted liver provides many additional years — even decades — of independent, healthy life, with proper medication and follow-up care.
Return to Normal Activities
Most transplant recipients return to work, travel, and enjoy everyday family life — freed from the constant hospitalizations and limitations of chronic liver failure.
Psychological Wellbeing
The relief from chronic illness, combined with renewed physical capacity, leads to measurable improvements in mental health, confidence, and overall quality of life.
Our Program
Our Liver Transplant Services
At Advanced International Hospital, our liver transplant program is built on a foundation of world-class surgical expertise, compassionate patient care, and seamless coordination across every stage — from your very first consultation through to lifelong follow-up.
Pre-Transplant Evaluation
Comprehensive medical, surgical, and psychological assessments to determine transplant readiness. This includes blood tests, imaging (MRI/CT), cardiopulmonary evaluation, nutritional assessment, and psychological screening — ensuring both patient and potential donor are thoroughly prepared.
Living-Related Donor Program
Expert guidance for family donors through every step — medical screening, ethical documentation, legal compliance, and a dedicated donor safety protocol managed by a separate surgical and medical team to ensure the donor's full protection and wellbeing.
Advanced Surgical Care
State-of-the-art operating theatres equipped with modern surgical technology. Our hepatobiliary surgeons are experienced in both adult and pediatric transplantation, supported by dedicated transplant anesthesiologists and specialized ICU teams providing 24/7 post-operative monitoring.
Post-Transplant Care & Immunosuppression
Individualized immunosuppression plans to prevent organ rejection while minimizing side effects. Regular clinic reviews, blood-level monitoring of medications, and careful adjustment of therapy ensure long-term graft function and patient health.
Nutritional & Rehabilitation Support
Specialist dietary guidance tailored to both pre- and post-transplant stages, combined with supervised physiotherapy to rebuild strength and mobility. Nutritional optimization before surgery significantly improves outcomes and recovery speed.
Psychosocial & Family Support
Dedicated counseling for patients and their families to navigate the emotional, practical, and financial aspects of a transplant journey. Our social work team assists with coordination, family communication, and community resources throughout the process.
